Prayer For An Auspicious Rebirth
This week sees a number of shifts in the skies, pulling the pattern of the heavens out of the shape its held for the last several weeks. First Saturn stations retrograde in Libra, beginning his long march back to Virgo. Then, on Friday, Mercury reaches the end of his retrograde, stationing direct at 5 degrees Capricorn, nearly conjunct Pluto and almost perfectly square Saturn in Libra. Friday is jam-packed, for not only does Mercury go direct, but the earth is also treated to a Solar eclipse, completing the period of personal transformation initiated by the Lunar Eclipse on New Year’s eve. As if that were not enough change, on Sunday night Jupiter creeps quietly into Pisces, a position he will hold for most of 2010.
The Reaper’s Retreat: Saturn Retrograde
After the first several months of not particularly bold strides into Libra, Saturn turns around, stationing retrograde this Thursday. Saturn will high-tail it all the way back into Virgo, re-ingressing back into the earth sign on April 7th,where he will stay until July 21st, when he returns to Libra to take part in this summer’s grand clusterfuck.

The initial phase of Saturn’s retrograde will again bring him into direct aspect with Pluto. The square between Saturn and Pluto (AKA “The Gates of Death”) characterized Saturn’s first several months in Libra and will color the next couple. Here, Saturn’s ability to build coherent and balanced life structures is undermined by the deep issues that hover just beneath the threshold of Pluto’s hellmouth. The situation is akin to trying to feng shui a house built atop an ancient Indian burial ground. It could also be likened to attempting make a fundamentally flawed health care system more fair and balanced without addressing the deep structural and institutional flaws. You can put as many fish tanks and ba gua mirrors as you want in that motherfucker, it ain’t gonna fix it.
Saturn’s retrograde phase will be focused on looking over the emerging architecture of your life, acknowledging whats working and what isn’t. On a psychological level, it is a phase concerned with internalizing the lessons put before you in a so-far external form. Regarding the square to Pluto, this means re-examining the truly fundamental nature of the structural changes that need to occur. It’s big change or bullshit change. Your call.
Mercury Direct
Mercury has been in Capricorn since the first week of December and retrograde since just after Xmas. This week, the messenger’s retreat grinds to a halt. The point which the messenger begins forward movement is just off of conjunction with Pluto and in a very tight square to Saturn in Libra. Standing right on Pluto and square Saturn, Mercury is in a position to announce the necessity of the changes that Saturn’s retrograde calls for. Serious plans with important consequences are likely to be spoken aloud and emerge into your brain. You might finally figure out how to conquer THE ENTIRE WORLD.
Mercury’s configuration with Saturn and Pluto certainly signifies a number of dark, heavy and important thoughts, but it also signals an end to another short season of Mercury retrograde SNAFUs. Cell phones everywhere can breath a sigh of relief.
A Ring For Thee: Annular Solar Eclipse
Because Mercury announcing Saturn’s big plans isn’t enough, heaven’s will also mandates a solar eclipse the same day. To, you know, make a point. Why kill flies with a swatter when the sledge is handy? This solar eclipse is extra special, as well. It is the first of the new eclipse series to occur in Capricorn, where the North Node is and will be for the next year. The solar eclipse this summer and the lunar one just weeks ago were both on the South Node, the Dragon’s tail. In effect, each presided over a profound disappearance of energy, a withdrawal, a letting go. The solar eclipse this week, on the Dragon’s Mouth, vomits us out of the wormhole of change and towards the cold stone ramparts of our position in the proverbial real world. With all the kinetic energy of a petite rebirth, we will alter the pre-existing life patterns by impact alone.

Horoscopes/Future-Crack:
January 11th-17th
Note on Horoscopes: 12 Fold horoscopes are a way to assess the general condition of the splayed rays of the zodiac. Although not without value, they are a blunt tool, and can only describe the archetypal activity in each power-zone. In order to sharpen the accuracy of the horoscopes, read your Sun Sign if you were born in the day-time, and read your Moon Sign if you were born at night. Reading the Sign in which the Ascendant is placed is also advised.
