Decade’s Last Light

partialeclipse

The dark rose of a lunar eclipse blooms over a week between decades.  With Mercury and Mars retrograde and a pair of eclipses on the way, this phase is fundamentally one of transition.  Here, one makes their way not by asking where they are, but what they have left behind and what lies ahead.  It is a subway, a dark locomotive connecting two places.  It is no-place in particular, a route, a tunnel.

Ghostrain

The lunar eclipse this New Year’s Eve is when we all hop aboard the midnight train and take a ride beneath the neon-lit layer of daily living, rushing swiftly through dark tunnels of transformation.  We’ll emerge out the other end on the Solar Eclipse in mid January, just about the time that Mercury goes direct.

The Dragon Eats The Moon

The lunar eclipse takes place at 10’ Cancer on New Year’s Eve afternoon.  It is a partial lunar eclipse, meaning that the Moon’s purty face won’t be entirely veiled.  It will be particularly visible throughout Asia and the Middle East, but will go totally unseen in the wilds of North America.

The Lunar Eclipse on New Year’s Eve is the first one in Cancer we’ve seen in a decade.  It is also the first lunar one in the cycle that began with this summer’s solar eclipse..  This eclipse cycle straddles the Cancer-Capricorn axis, and its central theme is a movement away from emotional attachments and towards a grounded, practical engagement with reality.  It is a shift towards the hard and away from soft.

The Lunar Eclipse on NYE is on the Cancer end of the equation, with the Solar Eclipse on January 15th being the Capricorn side.   The Lunar eclipse in Cancer is on the South Node, Ketu, the Dragon’s tail.  Ketu devours old attachments.  It is essentially subtractive, bringing up the emotional attachments in order to dissolve them.  It disintegrates the egoic bonds which bind us to certain feelings, liberating the energy.  It’s a helluva good time to be a Buddhist.

Archetypally, it is the hellmouth of the Great Mother that we are confronted with.  The universe breathes in, and the 10,001 forms of manifestation are sucked back into the burning gate, where they will be broken down to a prima materia fit for molding new forms.  It is the breakdown of form in order to create the possibility of new forms.  It is intensely personal, karmic, and necessary.

The Baron recommends that each person take some time on the afternoon of NYE to reflect on what they departing from.  Before the storm of festivities clogs the mind’s eye with fluorescent celebration, take the time to empty the mind until all that remains is that which is dissolving in the void.

Horoscopes:

Dec. 28th-Jan 3rd

Note on Horoscopes: 12 Fold horoscopes are a way to assess the general condition of the splayed rays of the zodiac. Although not without value, they are a blunt tool, and can only describe the archetypal activity in each power-zone. In order to sharpen the accuracy of the horoscopes, read your Sun Sign if you were born in the day-time, and read your Moon Sign if you were born at night. Reading the Sign in which the Ascendant is placed is also advised.

Aries:  This Olde House

The Lunar eclipse eats away at the home you’ve been carrying around in your heart.  The idealized/demonized home of primal beginnings, where your emotional expectations for the world were born.  Climb out of the container that formed you and embrace the current confines of your life.  You’ll find there are fewer ghosts where you live these days.

Taurus:  Tanglefoot

The lunar Eclipse on New Year’s Eve bleaches out your attachments to your habits and routines.  The neighborhood you’ve held close and all those who dwell within it disappear under the uncanny absence of the Full Moon.  Disentangle yourself from the vines of old patterns and you’ll gain the mobility you’ll need to take advantage of the opportunities lurking just over the horizon.   Relationships with siblings are also likely to go through a period of considerable change.

Gemini:  Synergy Bonus

The lunar eclipse highlights an attachment to working only with your own resources.  The blacklight of the dark moon disintegrates your emotional attachment to controlling the resources you depend upon, opening you up to the sweet possibilities of mixing your PB with the J of others.

Cancer: The Cauldron of Narcissus

The blacklight of the lunar eclipse shines directly onto your smiling face, bringing your cauldron to a rather fierce boil.  Gazing into the pot, you’ll see your reflection slowly disappear as the waters which reflect the image slowly evaporate.  Your identity is pinned to a series of feelings which are becoming less and less relevant.  Go with it.

Leo:  It’s All In Your Head*

The lunar eclipse occurs deep in the recesses of your subconscious.  Usually overlooked emotional needs boil to the surface, creating the opportunity to fix problems that often go unaddressed.  As these issues erupt and are identified, you’ll find that a number of practical problems become radically simplified.

*Except for the part in your ass

Virgo:  Uncertain Position

The lunar eclipse bathes your social sphere in blacklight, highlighting attachments to unnecessary people, and the masks you must wear to keep them around.  You’ll also likely end up needing to let go of the feeling of security provided by occupying a certain place in the social landscape.

Libra:  The Road Not Taken

Emotional attachments to a certain vision of professional success dissolve in the blacklight cascade of the eclipsed moon’s rays.  Whip out your Sunggy, because this elevator don’t go to the top floor.

Scorpio:  Scorpion-Eye View

The lunar eclipse spotlights emotional blockages tied to certain key beliefs about the world.  As the blockages liquefy and begin to swirl down the spout, some of these ideas are likely to follow suit, throwing your worldview into temporary disarray.

Sagittarius:  Learning Not To Share

The blacklight of the lunar eclipse shines on a need to separate your resources from others.  The shared resources which have provided you with strength over the past few years are becoming limiting rather than enabling.  Let go of what’s not yours and find out what is.

Capricorn:  Credit Due

This lunar eclipse is important for the ongoing shift of energy from other people to you.  This is a serious movement toward self reliance and away from dependent relationships.  Of course, before you board the me train, you’ll have to give thanks to those who bought your ticket.

Aquarius:  It’s All Your Fault

The lunar eclipse initiates a shift away from tangible problems, the habit of counting every penny as it slips through your fingers.  Take a step back from the bottom line, and you’ll see more subtle factors in play.

Pisces:  Tomorrow’s Downpour

The lunar eclipse sucks old creative forms into its dark face.  Your energy is getting ready to take on new shapes, but first a withdrawal  from the old is necessary.  Burn your childhood paintings and let their ashes spiral upwards, planting the seeds for tomorrow’s rain.
